Long Term plans help to catalogue and develop each of your areas of learning e.g. sand, construction, role play area etc. and show learning potential for each area. These plans also help to ensure that settings cover all areas of the curriculum over time. When it is decided to do something spontaneously such as turning the role play area into a doctor's surgery, this has usually already been written into the long term plan and thus gives the freedom to follow children’s interests without being concerned about the need to write everything down. From time to time you should add things to the long term plans to make them more effective working documents, not inflexible plans which could stunt creativity.
Second Part of the Long Term Plan includes additional information on how each area of constant provision supports the four E.Y.F.S. themes:
A Unique Child, Positive Relationships, Enabling Environments, Learning and Development
